Twenty-five years ago, terrorists attacked unarmed sailors enroute to a day watch at NSGA Sabana Seca. CTO1 John Ball, the Comms Supervisor, had volunteered to drive the Navy bus. RM3 Emil White, seated behind John was one of many other sailors on the bus. Both were killed by gunfire when the bus was blocked by a van and a pickup truck driven by terrorists. Many other sailors onboard were injured.

While those who suffered remain in our memories, we will not allow the horror of December 3rd 1979 to totally replace better memories of NSGA Sabana Seca. Following December 3rd 1979, the Navy and Marine community there carried on. We continued our mission, cared for our families and cared for one another. We got back to "normal" as quickly as possible. We still had Christmas in 1979, The CPO's still held initiation that December and The Sabana Seca Players continued to perform on our stage. Our kids still went to school and we still went out the gate into a welcoming community. I'm proud to say the sailors and marines of NSGA Sabana Seca continued to perform their missions into the 21st century.
